Life Lessons Learned From Your Cat

Cats can be mysterious and playful, loving and sneaky. They fill your life with that little bit something that only a feline can provide. A cat knows what she wants and typically gets it -and if she doesn’t, she’ll let you know she isn’t happy. There are quite a few things you can learn from your furbaby. Pay attention, and you will see just how amazing life can be by following your cat’s lead!

Life Lessons Learned From Your Cat

Groom regularly.

Cats are not shy. They groom themselves anytime and anywhere because being clean matters. Follow your cat’s lead and make sure to take pride in your appearance. When you spend time on your physical self, you feel happier.

Respect your boundaries - and other’s boundaries.

Cats enjoy their own space. They like to be near you when they want to be, but then alone when they want to be. This teaches you to respect your own space and set boundaries. Trust yourself when it comes to your feelings about others and respect your own boundaries. For others, understand that they need space and will come to you if needed.

Be independent.

Cats are nothing if not independent. They rely on you for food and water, but that is only because they live under your roof and are trained to do so. They are independent by nature - just as you are. Take notes on how to not become co-dependent on another person. It’s okay to walk away. It’s okay to set boundaries. It’s okay to follow your own path. Do it with confidence.

Live in the moment.

Is there a sunny spot shining in from that window? If so, it’ll make a great spot for an afternoon nap for your cat. It doesn’t matter that he was on the hunt to do something else, that sunshine just called his name. It’s called living in the moment, and you should follow in his path. Look around and see your moments - feel them - live them. Take chances, don’t take chances, but be 100% present.

Think on your feet.

Cats are light, quiet, and quick on their feet. They follow their gut instincts and are quick to react to every situation. Even if you are against confrontation, you still need to be able to hold your own in most conversations. Let your inner voice speak out and react well in any predicament.

Nap.

If there’s anything that cats do well, it’s nap. While you may not have time for an afternoon siesta, you can be conscious about the amount of sleep you are getting. Sleep equates to health, and cats are great about understanding this. If you are not sleeping well, increase your exercise amounts, pay attention to your food intake, and try to reduce your daily stressors.

The number one thing you can learn from your cat:

I love you, but I love me more.

Do you need to reread that? Go ahead.

Cats are not dogs. They do not attack to save you. Yes, they love you. Yes, they are wonderful members of the family, but they love themselves the most. This is something that every human should take to heart. Stop emptying your own cup to please others. Find what makes you happy and pursue it. Nap when you need to, travel when you want to, eat when you are hungry, and hold nothing back when it comes to you.
